The most common ceiling fan parts are switches, motors, mounting brackets, capacitors and pulls, just to name a few.

Aside from the blades, the most common part which will need replacing is the ceiling fan switch This part takes a lot of yanking and handling so it is normally subject to frequent damage or breakage. Over time the light switch may need replacing if it stops working.

With simple tools you can replace the ceiling fans. Turn the power off. Make sure that you turn the main power off before you start replacing the light switch. You need to turn off the circuit breaker. Better yet, remove the fuse controlling the power of the room.

2. Disassemble the bulbs. Find the pull chain and mark it with a piece of tape. When you take out the light fixture you will find it much less confusing to locate the fan control switch. Take out the shades and light bulbs by loosening the screws that can be found at the base of each shade.

3. Take out the ballast cover. The ballast cover is the part of the light fixture that has light bulbs attached to it. Be careful when unscrewing and lowering it. Do not pull the cover forcefully because it is still connected to the ceiling fan.

4. Remove the light fixture.
